The A-10 in flight First we had Batman Vs Superman, and with Captain America set to do war with Iron Man in the Civil War film, it seems the US Air Force is going to be hosting a showdown of their own. They are set to pit the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter against the 40-year-old A-10 Thunderbolt II in a series of “war games”. The F-35 is the world’s most expensive weapon, costing a remarkable $400 billion to develop and build 2,457 planes. It has faced huge problems and delay, and has been described as too expensive to retire, as once planned. F-35 fighter jet in test flight Now, it is going to be pitted against the A-10 – the aircraft it was built to replace – to see really who is the top gun. The aircrafts will face-off in a series of tasks, including close air support and combat search and rescue, alongside other missions. The director of the Defence Department operational test and evaluation office said the comparison makes sense, and told the Senate Armed Services Committee: “We're going to do it under all the circumstances that we see close air support conducted, including under high-threat conditions in which we expect F-35 will have an advantage and other conditions requiring loitering on the target, low-altitude operations and so-forth,' Gilmore told the Senate Armed Services Committee. “There are a lot of arguments that ensue over which aircraft might have the advantage, the A-10 or the F-35, but that is what the comparison test is meant to show us.” The outcome of the test could be rather embarrassing if the A-10 prevails, as $400 billion is rather a lot of money to spend when there is already something that can do a better job… So who will come out as top gun? Who knows, only time will tell! But if you’re looking for a top gun of your own, why not take a look at our range airsoft pistols? We’re sure you’ll find something to suit you!
