Good morning,
I recently acquired a BSA Meteor Mk2 - very old and in poor condition.
I have replaced the Mainspring with a Titan XS Mainspring. I have replaced the O-Ring and have a new leather piston-head which I soaked in vegetable oil overnight and installed.
Technically the rifle is now awesome and I'm very accurate over 150feet at least.
So what's next?
The Mk2 has a very basic front/rear sight system which has been bent and knocked out of place. I would like to use a telescopic sight instead. The Mk2 has the dovetail grooves to fit sights so which do I use? What sight (relatively inexpensive) would people recommend?
The paintwork is chipped and worn in many places. In order to stop rusting / corrosion I need to re-black it all over. What paint do I use and where do I get it?
I am looking to go out shooting squirrels as I have a thing against grey squirrels. Here is an odd question but once killed, what do I do with them? Can you eat them? Does anyone know how to prepare them?
Also, there seem to be a great many different shaped .22 calibre pellets....what are they all for? which is best?
Any answers to the above would be most appreciated. |

I know surplusstore do gun blue for the metal work (I guess that's what you mean!) But it may not be on the web-site so you may have to call them...
Pellet wise try either the pest control or long range gold, Pest controls have a hollowed out front for a more humane kill but to need a bit more force than normal to ensure penetration (fnar fnar ) and can bounce off at a distance. Long range gold are heavier weight so pack a bit more of a punch when they hit, also will be less affected by wind... |
