  • The Best Airsoft Sites in Scotland

Scotland is a unique and challenging place to skirmish, with the weather being naturally colder than southern UK, and rain being a more common occurrence. However, this should not stop you from getting out and experiencing the fantastic airsoft sites that the country has to offer. The outdoor sites make use of Scotland’s amazing countryside with expansive arenas set up, which run throughout the year. There is also a small selection of indoor venues, for when the weather really is too unbearable, allowing you to switch up your game and still enjoy a day out. Here, we’ll be looking to pick out some of the best venues in Scotland for both outdoor and indoor airsoft.

  • What Do Joules Mean in Airsoft?

    Airsoft Guns with gear behind

Arguably, one of the most important terms used within airsoft, certainly when it comes to gun safety and operation, is joules. All players should have at least a basic knowledge and understanding of this particular property of a gun, while knowing how they differ and how they correlate. Joules not only has strong implications of how your gun performs when in combat, but also decides whether or not it is safe for use on the field, something that all sites take very seriously and even if your Airsoft gun is legal to own!

  • How & Why Would You Silence an Air Rifle?

    Air Rifle aiming into forest

Since their conception over 100 years ago, silencers have been at the forefront (quite literally) of guns and their evolution. Initially designed in 1902, with the first patent being issued in 1909, Hiram Stevens Maxim created something that would come to revolutionise weaponry. Since then, their inclusion in military operations, law enforcement and even films, TV and video games have made them an unmistakeable object, even for those with little to no gun knowledge.

  • An Insight into Biodegradable Airsoft BBs

Person wearing military clothes in wooded area

As a sport that relies heavily on remaining in players’ and non-players’ good books, the airsoft community is one that is constantly looking to keep up with modern times. Unlike hugely popular sports such as football or rugby, airsoft is very much its own boss (other than legal legislation, of course), meaning that we can all play a part in bending and shaping the sport to best suit the players. Due to the nature of the sport, rules are adjustable to suit certain scenarios and can differ from site to site. As part of ‘being our own bosses’, it’s important that we take external factors seriously, such as legal and environmental considerations.

  • Advantages and Disadvantages of Filming Airsoft Gameplay

Airsoft Gun with scope camera attached

It feels like the airsoft community has never been bigger, with more and more people picking up their gear and heading out to shoot up their buddies with plastic BBs. There are numerous reasons the community continues to grow, with people getting their friends involved, exhibitions and event days growing in size and scale, and technology helping to make airsoft accessible for various ages and abilities. However, perhaps one of the greatest drivers of growth is YouTube.

  • Best Action Cameras for Airsoft

    Airsoft kit.

The meteoric rise in the popularity of sharing airsoft gameplay footage via video sharing sites such as YouTube and Facebook has led to many more people recording their days on the field. Whether they run a scope cam, first-person camera or both, we are seeing a significant rise in people filming their airsoft experiences. Although there are arguments for and against the use of cameras in airsoft, something we’ll touch on in a future blog post, there’s no denying that we’ve all marvelled at some of the epic sniper shots that have been caught on film. If you’re planning to start recording your airsoft gameplay or want to upgrade your current filming setup, then read on to see what we recommend for getting the best quality footage.

  • Airsoft Terminology - Part Two: N - Z

    Airsoft kit.

As part of our attempt to support new players that have recently taken up airsoft as a hobby, and to help more experienced players keep up with the jargon of the sport, we have published a two-part series of airsoft jargon. This is the second instalment in the series that focuses on N through to Z. Make sure to let us know if there is anything that you think we have missed from the list or if there are any site-specific phrases that are used at your local site. You can find part one of the series here.

  • Airsoft Terminology - Part 1: A-M

    Airsoft kit.

Here at the Surplus Store, we’re all about trying to introduce new people to the sport of airsoft, however, something that seems to be tripping a few new players up is the diverse and sometimes confusing vocabulary that the sport has adopted. A combination of words that have been given new, airsoft-specific meanings and seemingly endless acronyms have resulted in a new language spoken by airsofters. To help unravel the mysteries behind this foreign dialect, we have composed a two-part series that breaks down all the need-to-know vocab from the sport of airsoft.

  • Riot Shields in Airsoft: Overpowered or Under-utilised?

Man using riot shield in Airsoft arena

In a sport that is built on respect, fair play and keeping within the ‘spirit’ of the game, riot shields are something of a dividing topic. Many of us will have at some point considered whether using a shield would be productive for us and our teammates and whether it would be something we actually want to use. If you’ve not played with or against a riot/ballistic shield in the past, this may be something of a new topic for you and something you are yet to make up your mind on.

  • Upcoming Airsoft Guns We’re Looking Forward to in 2019

    Airsoft gun with additional accessories

Each year, we’re seeing bigger and better airsoft guns being released; which is great for our collections but not so great for the bank balance! This year, we saw some great products put out by some of the big boys, such as Tokyo Marui, but also some great weapons from smaller companies too! This market competition is invaluable for the airsoft community, to make sure that we’re only seeing the best products come to market. That being said, there are still a few ropey weapons making it onto the shelves and inevitably onto the battlefields, which can often lead to disappointment from the user. So we’re doing a bit of a roundup, to help you keep your eyes on the prize (the best upcoming guns) and not spend money where it’s not warranted. As a small disclaimer, any dates mentioned in the article may change, product designs may also change and unfortunately, we won’t get to try any of these before they are released, so this is mostly just our initial opinions. We’d love to hear from you to know what you’re looking forward to and to let us know if there’s something we’ve missed! Now, let’s get into the list:
