Can You Play Airsoft In The Rain?

In short, yes, you can play airsoft in the rain. However, there are things you should take into consideration to guarantee you have the best time possible out on the field.

Can You Use Airsoft Guns In The Rain?

Again, yes. For the most part, playing airsoft in the rain is absolutely fine, and there is minimal risk to your airsoft gun. Most quality airsoft rifles and pistols are sufficiently sealed around delicate components, such as the battery, and therefore should be fine in the rain. However, when it is raining, there are some things to remember to minimise any risk of damaging your gun or its accuracy.

Make Alterations To Your Game Play Style

One thing to be wary of is getting excessive amounts of water in the barrel, as this could potentially affect the hop-up and, therefore, the accuracy of your shots. A simple way to remedy this is firstly to not submerge your gun in any puddles, and secondly, where possible, have your barrel pointing down rather than up when you aren't taking a shot. This will significantly reduce the amount of water that can enter your barrel and prevent any unwanted alterations to your weapon's accuracy.

Can You Use Your AEG Airsoft Guns In The Rain?

If your airsoft gun of choice is an AEG, you may be concerned with damaging its electronics. However, good-quality electric airsoft pistols or rifles should have a degree of weatherproofing to ensure they can perform in various conditions.

That being said, if you have inspected your gun and are concerned about water seeping into weak points in your gun's casing, then you can always modify the waterproofing on your weapon for skirmishes taking place in heavy rain. This can be done in an extremely straightforward way with electrical tape and cling film. Simply cover any joins or holes in the casing that protect the more delicate components of your gun.

Airsoft Clothing For The Rain

If you intend to enter the airsoft field, come rain or shine, then one surefire way to make sure you aren't wet and uncomfortable is by wearing appropriate clothing. When you spend hours outdoors, simply throwing a raincoat on won't suffice; your clothing will require a little more thought if you want to stay dry for the entire day.

Layer Your Clothing

Layering is one of the most important things to consider when planning your clothing for a rainy airsoft game. Try to choose breathable materials that allow air to permeate through the material, as this will reduce the amount of sweat you produce under all those layers. Having a single-layer raincoat over a t-shirt will result in water seeping through from the coat's contact with your skin, so ensure you choose a double-layer raincoat.

For winter days, we strongly recommend layering a moisture-wicking layer underneath, such as an exercise shirt, before adding a fleece or jumper and, finally, over the top, wearing a camouflage waterproof jacket.

Waterproof airsoft gear

On the lower half of your body, we suggest wearing some breathable waterproof trousers over your regular choice of trousers. This is not absolutely necessary, but it can increase your comfort level and provide your whole body with protection from the rain.

Another often uncomfortable reality of playing airsoft in the rain can be soggy feet; water can quickly seep into combat boots if you are running through the thick mud or puddles. We stock some fantastic waterproof socks to keep your feet dry all day.

For extra comfort and protection from the rain, you can add some type of airsoft snood to prevent water from seeping through the top of your waterproof jacket. Furthermore, some headgear with a slight cap will prevent rain from soaking your face and potentially obstructing your vision.

What To Do After Playing Airsoft In The Rain

Playing airsoft is fantastic exercise and pretty tiring, and when you return home from the field, you will probably want to throw your kit bag to the side and put your feet up. However, after a rainy skirmish, we strongly recommend drying your gear.

Firstly you will want to ensure your airsoft gun and its components are bone dry. If you don’t, there is a serious risk of rust and pitting on your gun's steel components. Not only does rust not look nice, but it can also affect the performance of your weapon. Secondly, wash your wet and muddy gear. If left in your kit bag, it can develop mould and dampness, which can be very difficult to eliminate entirely.

By following these tips and suggestions, you can have a lot of fun on a rainy airsoft field. However, if the rainy skirmish is not your idea of fun, then you can always try an indoor airsoft site.
