Airsoft tracer units are an excellent way to keep track of your shots in low-light conditions. Using a combination of ultraviolet lights from the unit and phosphor (glow in the dark) coating on specialist BBs, tracers allow your shots to glow as they fly through the air, making it much easier to follow their trajectory.
Airsoft tracers aren’t just great for improving performance by monitoring shot trajectory; they can also add an element of realism to airsoft games, with players seeing shots fly through the air as they might in a real-world scenario.
An airsoft tracer works through a combination of two things: an airsoft tracer unit and tracer BBs.
There are many tracer units on the market. Many of them are designed and shaped like silencers and will attach to the end of your barrel with their own battery system to power the rays that create the glow. You need to ensure that you pick a unit size that will fit and attach to your barrel, but you’ll often find multiple options for popular pistol or rifle sizes.
When picking a tracer unit, keep in mind what colour you would like your BBs when they glow. Green is a common colour, but some prefer oranges or reds, which can require different units – make sure your unit can produce the colour you want.
Alongside your tracer unit, you’ll need specialised BB tracer units. They are made just like regular BBs but have a glow-in-the-dark coating which the tracer unit lights up as the BB passes through.
Tracer units are compatible with regular BBs, and tracer BBs can be used without a tracer unit. However, to get the glow-in-the-dark effect, you’ll need both together.
Another thing to consider when choosing a tracer unit is the various additional features available. There are lots of great tracer units out there with add-ons such as fire and smoke effects from the barrel, and Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to customise colours and effects on your phone. These tracers are an awesome way to add even more realism and customisation to your gameplay.
