Warhammer FAQs
What do I need to start building Warhammer models?
To build Warhammer models, you’ll need a pair of clippers to remove parts from the frame, plastic glue and a hobby knife to tidy up any rough edges. To paint them, start with a primer spray, a brush and a few Citadel paints. A starter set is the easiest way to get everything you need in one box.
Are Warhammer models sold assembled or painted?
Most Warhammer models and miniatures come unassembled and unpainted, on plastic frames called sprues. Building and painting them is a big part of the hobby, and it lets you customise your army however you like.
What’s the difference between Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar?
Warhammer 40,000 is set in a grim sci-fi future, with armies like Space Marines, Orks and Necrons. Age of Sigmar is a high fantasy setting, with armies like Stormcast Eternals and Skaven. Both use Citadel miniatures and paints, so your tools and paints work for either game.
What’s the best Warhammer game for beginners?
If you want a smaller game with fewer models, Kill Team is a great place to start, because each side only needs a handful of miniatures. If you’d rather build a full army, a Warhammer 40K or Age of Sigmar starter set gives you two forces and the rules to play straight away.
Which paints do I need for Warhammer miniatures?
Most beginners start with a primer spray, a few Base paints for the main colours, a Shade paint to add depth and a Layer paint for highlights. Citadel Contrast paints are a quick alternative, because they add colour and shading in a single coat over a light primer.
Do you sell Warhammer books?
Yes. We stock Black Library novels and hardbacks, including Horus Heresy, 40K and Age of Sigmar stories, plus new releases on pre-order.
