In a recent interview with Time Out London, Daniel Craig was asked if he could imagine himself making another James Bond film, with Craig retorting in no uncertain terms, he would not like to return as 007.
He is in fact still under contract for one more film, which is currently just entitled “Bond 25”. However, things are so changeable in Hollywood, meaning Craig could quite easily say he wasn’t returning, leaving the door open for a new actor.
Craig said at this moment in time, he is “over” playing Bond, and would only return for the money. He is currently on the promotional tour for Spectre, which will be his fourth time as 007 in the past nine years.
Previously, he had stated that he would keep going as long as he was “physically able”, but it now seems he has gone back on his word! After forging a close working relationship with director Sam Mendes (who also directed Skyfall), Craig stated he would pass on all the ideas for his character to the director, to take or leave.
This has now led to Craig saying “every idea I’ve had for a Bond movie, I’ve stuck into this one ... The Bond bank is dry.”
So with the Bond bank dry for Mr Craig, who should be his successor? There is an extensive list of Hollywood actors who have been linked with the job, with Homeland actor Damien Lewis currently the bookies favourite. He has been joined by current Superman, Man From U.N.C.L.E actor Henry Cavill, and Luther actor Idris Elba.
Several woman have also put their names forward, which would take the franchise in a completely different direction!
