A trailer has recently been released for a film called Hardcore Henry, about a cyborg who is bought back from the dead by his scientist wife, who must then go on a rampage to get her back after she is kidnapped.
Sounds like your standard action film right? Well the difference is, it is shot entirely in first person point-of-view, giving the experience that you, the viewer, is the titular character.
Hardcore Henry began on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo, where it raised $250,000 in December 2014. It then received a rather high-profile showing at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015, which led to STX Entertainment picking up the worldwide rights for the film for $10 million.
The cast isn’t the worst we’ve ever seen either, with appearances from Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A Team) and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction). The film is currently boasting an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it must be doing something right!
Watching the trailer gives a very similar feel to the footage you seen on YouTube from people strapping GoPros to their airsoft rifle and recording their skirmishes (but with more blood, explosions and car chases…).
With it being shot in first person POV, you lose the peripheral vision you normally have, which gives a slight sense of tunnel vision, but for a film that sounds pretty mental in its ideas, it should be an interesting watch!
Hardcore Henry lands in cinemas on the 8th April this year, and for those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, you can do so here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96EChBYVFhU.
