Having a knife with you when out in the bush can assist you with so many things, and help with your overall survival. Surplus Store stock a range of Helle knives; hand-crafted Norwegian knives which can be as versatile as you need them to be.
The company behind this quality survival knives, Helle, was birthed amongst the mountains and fjords of Norway, where there is ample opportunity to enjoy many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing or foraging. Helle knives follow a simple design of a stainless-steel blade and a wooden handle which is comfortable in hand, no matter the user.
Brothers Steinar and Sigmund Helle started knife production in the old forge on their farm in 1932, and their sheath knives quickly became popular among the locals and laid the foundations for a small piece of Norwegian craftsmanship history. But soon enough, the local market became too small, so Steinar Helle packed his rucksack full of knives and set off over the mountains towards the east – on a bicycle! In Oslo, he sold the knives for 40 øre (øre is the equivalent of a UK pence) a piece.
Today, as much as it was back then, much of the production is done manually, and the philosophy of Helle stays the same: Quality craftsmanship is best preserved by skilled craftsmen. Craftsmen with extensive experience and knowledge still take pride in making each and every Helle knife unique.
It could be said that everyone who works at Helle is also part of their Research & Development department, as by living in the rugged mountains, forests and fjords of Norway, they too use the knives they make and sell.
With the knives now being sold all around, and Surplus Store stocking an extensive range in their shop, customers can be guaranteed they are getting a knife of high quality and can be used by a professional hunter, scout or outdoorsman. Helle knives are designed to meet the demands of the outdoors and will last for generations. Please note you have to be over 18 to purchase. Helle Knives Should be Added to Your Survival Kit
