Umarex USA recently announced a pretty cool development in their air rifle technology, in the form of StopShox, a patent pending vibration reduction technology.
The unveiling came at the Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, with the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Umarex USA, Richard Turner, saying “We set out to solve one of the most frustrating problems with powerful air rifles today… the amount of vibration and recoil".
StopShox works alongside a floating stock design in order to reduce the recoil vibrations that can sometimes be of a hindrance to the shooter. It is designed specifically to absorb shock, vibration and recoil in break barrel air rifle’s spring or gas piston power system.
The current model containing the technology is known as the Throttle, and comes in either .177 or .22 calibres. It features a unique, black, all-weather stock, automatic safety and a 3–9×32 adjustable objective scope.
The technology is currently only available in the States, but it will be interesting to see if it actually makes that much difference. If it does, will it only be of use on the higher power airguns available in the US or if it will it find its way over the pond to us here in the UK?
If you are interested to see how the technology works for yourself, Umarex released a short video breaking down how it works. Be prepared for a minute of over the top visuals and a very odd dubstep soundtrack… Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRH0_3zAkpg.
