Video game controller Unsurprisingly, the video game industry is continuing to grow at breakneck speeds and shows no sign of slowing down. Last year, it was expected that a total of 2.3 billion gamers worldwide would reach into their pockets and spend approximately $137 billion on games. Perhaps slightly more surprising was that, of those revenues, 50% was expected to come from mobile platforms – this includes smartphones and tablets. With more money, more media coverage and more technology than ever before, we can expect 2019 to be a blockbuster year for video games in terms of size, scale and visual advancements. Naturally, being airsofters, we’ve got an especially keen eye on the upcoming shooting games due to grace our screens; because if we’re not madly running around the battlefield with our airsoft rifles, we’re doing it in a video game! So, whether you’ll be teaming up with your airsoft pals or competing for bragging rights, here are some of our top shooter games due for release this year.

Rage 2

Rage 2 Video game Following up the 2011 prequel, Rage 2 brings the promise of utterly over-the-top violence accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek humour that borders on the edge of obscene. After the disappointment of Bethesda’s most recent instalment of the Fallout series, they will be hoping to fight their way back to the top with a strong release, here. Players are in control of a wasteland warrior style character that inhabits a beautiful open world map, ripe for exploration. Initial trailers look promising, and we can’t wait to get our hands on the full release to see just how over the top it is!

Anthem

Anthem Video Gaem Seemingly one of the most talked about games due for release in early 2019, Anthem is particularly reminiscent of Destiny which also had a focus on the online multiplayer aspect. Players have the choice between four classes of weaponised mechanical suits called Javelins, with an emphasis on exploring the open world environment and teaming up with your friends to take on public events in the multiplayer world.

Atomic Heart

Atomic Heart Video Game Something completely bizarre that we can’t help but get excited about, Atomic Heart is a first-person game set in alternative Soviet Union past; one that has seen substantial technological advancements much before the rest of the world. The game’s enemies are robotic house slaves turned bad, and these come in all shapes and sizes. The trailer also shows a number of organic enemies (zombies etc.) but how they came into existence hasn’t yet been confirmed. If you’re into blood-pumping survival-horror, then this will be for you!

Crackdown 3

Crackdown 3 Video Game Something more light-hearted, comical and arcadey now, as Crackdown returns for its third instalment. First announced in 2014, this open-world shooter prides itself on bringing as much mayhem and destruction to the city it’s based in as possible. Finding orbs that level up your character allow for more jumping, running, gunning and madness so these will be key to your success. If you’re looking for something less intense that you can just pick up and play, this should be a good pick for you!

Doom Eternal

Doom Eternal Video Game Another one from the industry big-boys at Bethesda, this sequel to 2016’s initial reboot of the franchise looks promising. There is a clear focus on speed of play and the fluidity of combat scenarios. With improvements to both single player and multiplayer modes, Doom Eternal is certainly one to watch out for this year!

Far Cry New Dawn

Far Cry New Dawn Video Game Now on its sixth instalment of the series, Far Cry New Dawn takes place 17 years after the timeline of Far Cry 5 and makes it the first game that acts as a continuation of the story that we’ve seen so far in the series. Set in a post-nuclear war America, the open world environment is as diverse as in previous games and is populated by people celebrating the new world, along with some semi-mutated pigs and deer.

Metro Exodus

Metro Exodus Video Game What looks to be the final instalment to the Metro series, Exodus brings players back to where it all started, a post-apocalyptic Moscow inhabited by any number of nasty, bloodthirsty creatures. Offering more open world areas to explore than its predecessors, this last game in the series looks to be pulling out all the stops from a visual point of view. Therefore, we can expect this to be a great looking game that hopefully finishes the series with a bang! These are the games that we’re looking forward to seeing released this year, but which ones are you most excited about? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter! Image Source: Instacodez
